"applying computer settings" takes at least ten minutes
Something has happened during a recent microsoft update that has affected all of my workstations. They run on Win XP Pro and now they all get stuck for ten minutes on "applying computer settings". We run a Windows 2003 server. All recent updates and patches have been applied to all machines. The DNS settings have the correct server address. All PC's worked fine until a few weeks ago when this started happening. I have run registry editors, cleaned up the PC's, minimised startup programs and still to no avail. Given how this occurred I think there must be a bug in a recent windows patch that has bene applied. Can anyone make any further suggestions to resolve this please?1 person needs an answerI do too

Take one of the machines, go through your MS Update history, and uninstall the latest ones. See if the machine runs as it should. If so, then start reinstalling the updates one at a time until you've duplicated the problem. That last one would be the culprit. Uninstall it from the rest of the machines and all should be well :-)If uninstalling them has no effect, then try a System Restore (on your test machine) to a time before the updates were installed and see if that helps any.SC Tom-There's no such thing as TMI when asking for tech support.
